RIDING ARENA FLOORS

Plastic Grass Pavers for Riding Arena Floors

Plastic grass pavers are excellent for constructing riding arena floors or riding rings. When a riding arena is built as shown below, no additional drainage is needed. The gravel layer functions as a drainage layer. Excess water is drained through the gravel layer, which also acts as a buffer for water retention during heavy rainfall. When a riding arena is constructed this way, it can also be used by heavy vehicles. Another advantage is that the corners of the arena experience less wear, because the sand layer is thinner and easier to level again. When horses walk in the arena, they cannot dig deep holes since they step on the grass pavers and cannot penetrate deeper.

Construction of Riding Arena / Paddock Floor

Material Calculations:

  • Crushed rubble / coarse gravel = 0.25 m³ or 0.358 tons per m²
  • Gravel = 0.05 m³ or 0.07 tons per m²
  • Sand = 0.07 m³ or 0.1 tons per m² (paddock)
  • Sand = 0.13 m³ or 0.195 tons per m² (riding arena floor)

Example calculation for 160 m²:

  • Crushed rubble = 160 m² × 0.358 tons = 57.28 tons
  • Gravel = 160 m² × 0.07 tons = 11.2 tons
  • Sand = 160 m² × 0.1 tons = 16 tons (paddock floor)
  • Sand = 160 m² × 0.195 tons = 31.2 tons (riding arena floor)

The construction recommendations and calculations are examples and may vary somewhat in practice.

This construction is very suitable for paddock floors and riding arena floors.

Advantages:

  • Highly frost resistant, so the arena can be used again quickly after frost.
  • Good drainage, no wet spots in the arena.
  • Very high load capacity, no sinking under normal use.
  • Less deep hoof marks.
